Rep. Webster outlines the first 100 days of the 118th Congress

Webster's office coming to Apopka this week

Posted

In his weekly newsletter, Rep. Daniel Webster of the Florida 11th Congressional District (which includes Apopka) outlined the first 100 days of the 2023 Congress and announced his staff coming to Apopka on Thursday. Here is part of Webster's newsletter:

Dear Friends:

Today marks 100 days of the House Republican Majority. One hundred days into our new Majority, we’ve wasted no time delivering real results on behalf of the American people. When my Republican colleagues and I made our Commitment to America, we pledged to enact policies that build an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable. Despite Democrats holding the Senate and the White House, we’ve already passed more bills and have had more legislation reach President Biden’s desk compared to the last Congress.

Coast Guard Visit

Last week, I spent time with our Coast Guard and Military officials who are on the front lines protecting Florida’s southmost border. Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S) oversees operations to detect, monitor and target illicit drug trafficking that criminal organizations attempt by air or by sea. During my visit, I heard from Coast Guard Rear Admiral Fedor, U.S. Navy Rear Admiral LeGree, and members who serve at JIATF-S on the challenges they’re facing as they work to stop the flow of illicit drugs into our country.  We also discussed the recent spikes in migrant flow and human trafficking that occurred during the Biden Administration. I heard firsthand stories of how cartels are exploiting President Biden’s lack of leadership and failure to enforce our border and immigration laws.

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, which I chair, has oversight of the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure they’re fulfilling their mission.  The vessels the Guard requires to conduct search and rescue, illegal drug and migrant interdiction, oil spill prevention and response, maritime safety, and security are very outdated. Through our subcommittee, Congress recently approved much-needed replacements for many of the vessels. While in Key West, I met with the captain and several crew members of a new Coast Guard Fast Response Cutter. This team patrols the Florida Straits – picking up and returning Cuban migrants, interdicting drugs, or rescuing lost or stranded fishermen or tourists. This week in D.C., my committee will review the Coast Guard’s 2024 budget request for their operations and capital investments.

Constituent Corner

The House Committee on Veterans Affairs contacted my office as a veteran reached out requesting assistance. My staff followed up with the constituent and learned he started receiving monthly benefits from the VA but had not received any communication as to why, and was concerned the VA would request a repayment of the funds. My staff submitted an inquiry on his behalf and was able to provide the veteran with a written explanation from the VA.

Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you.
