Piedmont Plaza plans to be presented to City Council today

Posted

According to the City of Apopka the proposed redevelopment plan for the Piedmont Plaza shopping center will be presented today to the Apopka City Council.

G&I VIII Piedmont Plaza and Woolbright Development – developer of the 229,000-square-foot Wekiva Riverwalk shopping center – propose to demolish part of the nearby, 31-year-old Piedmont Plaza and to expand other areas to accommodate new tenants at the corner of Semoran Boulevard and Piedmont Wekiwa Road.

Piedmont Plaza 2Piedmont has about 221,00 square feet of retail space. The proposed redevelopment will be an increase of 24,000 square feet of space divided among three major buildings with a dramatically improved façade.

If the changes are approved, the new tenants could include a 2-story, 38,000-square-foot 24 Hour Fitness center with an indoor pool and basketball court. Renderings of the fitness center also include an adjacent Party City store. The large building with the existing Bealls store would be partly redeveloped to accommodate Bealls along with more neighboring tenants.

Hobby Lobby will remain, according to plans.
