Apopka Elections 2022

Over 4,500 early votes cast in Apopka on eve of Election Day

Large early voting and mail-in ballot numbers may fuel a record turnout for mayoral race

Posted

Early voting in Apopka has concluded, but not before 1,625 residents came out to cast a ballot.

That includes 574 Apopka voters this weekend at the VFW/Apopka Community Center and 1,059 in the first four days (Tuesday-Friday) of early voting. Combined with 2,850 vote-by-mail ballots received along with 27 early voting ballots at the Orange County Elections Supervisor's Office brings the total to 4,502 votes received.

And if the Election Day number is within the margin of previous models, Apopka is about to set a turnout record.

To put that impressive early voting total in perspective, in 2018, 2,631 votes were cast early, and 6,492 voters participated overall, which was a 20.7% turnout rate. There are 35,253 registered voters in Apopka, which means if the turnout percentage simply matches 2018, there would be 7,297 votes - breaking the 2018 mark by over 800 votes.

But with the early voting numbers already in hand, turnout could easily go over 8,000.

In Apopka election cycles from 2014-2018, 43%-60% of the electorate voted on election day for an average of 50%. If that average holds true on Tuesday, Apopka will send an astounding 9,004 to the polls. Even at 43%, the total would be 8,373.

Of the votes received, 1,918 (42.6%) were registered as Republicans, 1,792 (39.8%) were Democrats, and 792 (17.6%) were No Party Affiliation or others.
