From the Orange County Newsroom
The Orange County Medical Clinic, a division of Orange County Government, today announced that its County Outreach Awareness Community Health (COACH) program is on track for a record-breaking year, having already screened more than half as many residents as it did in all of 2024. The COACH program travels to various community centers, churches, and community events to offer free health screenings for adults who attend community events in Orange County.

“We’ve seen a growing number of community organizations inviting us to provide free health screenings,” said Brittany Pickren, program manager for the COACH Program. “We now average three to four events a week. From January 1 to April 23, we screened 570 people – already more than half of last year’s total of 1,006. In March alone, we screened 213 individuals, marking our highest monthly total since the program began.”
The COACH team screens for the following:
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Sugar
- HbA1C
- Cholesterol
Once an individual is screened, and if they don’t have a primary care provider, they can meet with an OCMC eligibility counselor to see if they qualify for medical services at the Orange County Medical Clinic. If they do not meet the criteria, the staff can refer them to a healthcare provider within the Primary Care Access Network, a group of healthcare providers that aims to provide affordable healthcare to the community.
“The data speaks for itself and proves there is a need for medical services in our community,” said Jessica Rodriguez, manager for OCMC. “Seeking out healthcare can be a very stressful situation, especially if you do not have access to health insurance. With this program, we’re helping people find options to establish a primary care provider, or what we call a ‘medical home.’ This is something that will have positive impacts on people’s health and reinforces our mission to improve the overall health of our community.”
