Orange County hosts 2025 Hurricane Expo: “Power of Preparedness” theme focuses on safety and readiness

Posted

As hurricane season intensifies across the region, Orange County Government and the Office of Emergency Management are inviting residents to take proactive steps by attending the 2025 Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 21, at Evans High School. The free, family-friendly event, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., aims to equip attendees with the tools, information, and resources they need to weather any storm.

Related: Hurricane season is here, but FEMA’s policy change could leave low-income areas less protected.

This year’s theme, “Power of Preparedness,” underscores the critical importance of being ready before disaster strikes. The expo will offer one-on-one conversations with emergency responders, safety demonstrations, and expert guidance on hurricane readiness, including supply checklists, evacuation planning, and storm survival tips.

A highlight of the event will be a presentation on the 2025 hurricane forecast by meteorologist Amy Sweezey, who will share insights into what residents can expect this season and provide guidance on how to prepare accordingly. Attendees will also receive free preparedness items—while supplies last—to help them start or update their emergency kits.

The event will be held in the gymnasium at Evans High School, located at 4949 Silver Star Road in Orlando. Informational sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. All residents, especially those new to Central Florida or unfamiliar with hurricane protocols, are encouraged to attend.
