Orange County Public Schools students posted significant gains on this year's statewide assessments, improving in nearly every tested subject and grade level while exceeding state averages in several key areas.
Results released Friday by the Florida Department of Education show the district improved four percentage points in English Language Arts and three percentage points in mathematics compared with the 2024-25 school year. Overall, student achievement either increased or remained steady across all reported subject areas and grade levels.
The scores include the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Progress Monitoring 3 exams in English Language Arts for grades 3-10 and mathematics for grades 3-8, as well as statewide science assessments and end-of-course exams in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, Civics and U.S. History.
"Today's results reflect the strong and steady progress happening across Orange County Public Schools, driven by the dedication of our teachers, students, administrators, families and support staff," Superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez said in a statement. "We are proud to see the gains along with improvement or stability in nearly every subject area and grade level. These results demonstrate the impact of high-quality instruction and our continued focus on student achievement. While we celebrate these successes, we remain committed to building on this momentum to ensure every student graduates ready for the future."
Several grade levels posted particularly strong improvements in English Language Arts. Grade 7 students improved seven percentage points, rising from 55% to 62% of students scoring at Level 3 or higher. Grades 5 and 8 each improved six percentage points, while grades 3 and 4 each increased four points.
In mathematics, Grade 5 students recorded one of the district's largest gains, increasing six percentage points from 58% to 64%. Grade 7 mathematics improved five points, while grades 3 and 8 each gained four points.
Science performance also improved across the district. Grade 5 science increased five percentage points to 67%, while Grade 8 science climbed from 52% to 57%. Biology end-of-course exam scores improved four points to 77%.
Among high school end-of-course assessments, Geometry increased three percentage points to 59%, while U.S. History rose to 75%, surpassing the statewide average of 74%.
Overall, OCPS students outperformed statewide averages in:
- FAST English Language Arts for grades 3, 4 and 5.
- FAST Mathematics for grades 3, 4, 5 and 8.
- Geometry end-of-course exams.
- Grade 5 and Grade 8 science.
- Biology and U.S. History end-of-course exams.
The district matched statewide performance in Grade 6 and Grade 7 English Language Arts, Grade 6 mathematics and Algebra 1.
The latest results continue a positive trend for Orange County Public Schools as district leaders focus on improving academic outcomes following changes to Florida's statewide assessment system. The district said it remains committed to building on this year's gains and ensuring students graduate prepared for college, careers and the future.
