No charges filed in APD death investigation

53-year-old victim killed after taking shelter beneath a commercial vehicle during a storm

The Apopka Police Department released the following statement as an update on the death investigation of Daniel J. Hodge from June 15th:

"The investigation into the death of Daniel J. Hodge, which occurred on Monday, June 16, 2025, has concluded. No criminal charges are being pursued in this incident.  

During the overnight hours of June 15, 2025, Mr. Hodge sought shelter from a storm beneath a commercial vehicle. Approximately one hour later, the driver arrived, started the vehicle, and departed – unaware that Mr. Hodge was beneath the trailer. Mr. Hodge sustained fatal injuries as the vehicle exited the parking lot." 

From June 15th:

Today, at approximately 6:20 a.m., officers from the Apopka Police Department responded to a call regarding a death investigation in the area of 250 East 3rd Street. Upon arrival, emergency personnel from the Apopka Fire Department confirmed that the individual at the scene was deceased.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Daniel J. Hodge.

Preliminary information suggests that the circumstances of Mr. Hodge’s death may be traffic-related. As a result, the Apopka Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit was called to the scene and is actively collecting evidence. Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

Officials have not released details regarding the specific nature of the suspected traffic involvement or whether any vehicles or individuals are currently being sought in connection with the case. 

As part of their efforts, the Apopka Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident or who has information that could aid in the investigation is encouraged to come forward.
