Nesta: "The majority on the Council (Nelson with Anderson and Smith) continue to work to silence, intimidate, and censor the voice of residents"

Posted

The motion was made by me (Commissioner Nick Nesta) to continue, as historically and properly done, to live stream the Public Comments section of the City of Apopka Council Meeting Agenda.

Commissioner Vice Mayor Diane Velazquez did submit a second to the motion and was dismissed without merit by Commissioner Nadia Anderson, Commissioner Alexander Smith and current censured Mayor Bryan Nelson.

The majority on the Council (Nelson with Anderson and Smith) continue to work to silence, intimidate and censor the voice of residents.

Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta
Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta

We have many residents that cannot attend the meetings for various reasons (scheduling, health, fear, etc.,) and learn about issues going on in their neighborhoods as well as new positive initiatives being implemented by many organizations throughout our community via City of Apoka live stream.

The majority of this Council now believe it is more important to not inform our residents or hear their concerns but that it is more important to push the voices of the residents we serve to the end of the meeting and ensure the rest of the community cannot hear what is being said.

It is also worth noting that temperature and conditions in the room have also been manipulated with thermostat readings an excess of 80 with residents and city staff fanning in the heat that maliciously consumes the room.

Other documented things also include the current mayor turning the lights off in the chambers as he exits but while people are talking and gathering their belongings to leave.

The question throughout the City of Apopka and beyond is why is the current mayor Bryan Nelson at this point deliberately attacking the entire City of Apopka with the support of Commissioners.

i.e., Public Comments moved to the end of the meeting, live feed for public comments being shut off by the IT Director Robert Hippler at the instruction of "administration", votes to allow the current mayor to alter meeting minutes to state things that were never stated or did not occur, switching the color of the public comment sheets without notifying the public, votes to shut down a City of Apopka Forensic Audit, attacks on the Apopka Fire Department, etc.

What is there to hide? What are the majority not wanting to get out into the community?

The current City of Apopka Attorney Cliff Shepard has provided “opinions” for a compensation on matters of importance to the current mayor Bryan Nelson and not the residents who pay for it but that helped support false narratives put forth by the current mayor Bryan Nelson.

The action of the majority of the Council do not value the residents voice but I will continue to show ALL residents that YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

The residents are the life line of the community and I value their voices!

Rarely do people show up to city counsel meetings to voice concerns, they show up to complain about the leadership. Not legitimate complaints, politically manipulated complaints. There is not reason to slow down the process of doing business during the counsel meetings to listen people complain about someone they do not like. Do the business, then complain. Maybe the mayor should just shut them down. Maybe you should leave Apopka, Nick. You have shown yourself to be a trouble maker, not a problem solver. Kyle Becker was doing a good job, until he decided to run for mayor. It sounds like you are setting yourself up to run for mayor. That would be a terrible thing for Apopka.

I am very thankful to have Commissioner Nesta speaking up for the people of Apopka. I value the thoughts and input of the community and find it a vital part of a city council meeting. Our family moved to Apopka four years ago, and my husband and I began attending city council meetings. I have become more and more convinced that Mayor Nelson is not out for the best of our community. He seems to suppress any positive change, and his actions come across as underhanded or not transparent. Ideally, the entire council would be united in making Apopka a top residential destination in Florida where residents, and businesses, thrive and don't want to leave. It is naturally beautiful, centrally located, and has kind, hardworking citizens. Cleaning it up, making it safer and more economically vibrant should unify us all.

Someone is completely out of touch with the community. There are so many valid completes that they're piling on top of one another. With 6000 water meters not even working properly and Nelson doing nothing for six years to fix them, residents should not stand by and take that. With Nelson knowing and staying informed about the catastrophe at Golden Gem ponds and covering it up at every turn, people should be raising the roof. Two Hundred Million gallons of nasty green, slimy water breaking through into the aquifer, the very water people drink, and not even informing anyone until someone else reported it should be grounds for his removal for putting people's health at risk. Not following the instructions of the very expert that was hired to find the way to fix it, allowing landfill type rubbish, asphalt, metal and plastic pipes, cleanup materials from other jobs, nasty dirt, etc., thinking it wouldn't be caught, is one of many examples that Nelson will hide things from the citizens and even the commissioners. He's done so time and time again. If someone doesn't care about people's physical well being, their individual rights as citizens and constantly sides with outside developers, instead of organizing a plan that can help both sides of the issue, the city has a big problem. And that problem is Brian Nelson and anyone who might be helping him disregard the citizens. Placing public comment at the end, where the elderly and disabled to have to wait for hours to even speak can be a form of torture. Cutting the feed so that no one can watch it from YouTube, though they can broadcast the rest just fine, is a slap in the face to every citizen who wants or needs to watch from home because they can't make it to the meeting. I hope that the people of Apopka are finally seeing that if they don't stand up for them selves, they can be assured that the mayor isn't looking out for them. Attend the meetings, join together to end being censored. Make your wishes known and let it be known that the mayor needs to do his job as well as the the rest of the council. If not, band together and remove him. Nesta and Velazquez are the ones trying to work for the good of the people. If Nelson were doing his job correctly, people wouldn't need to keep coming back to have issues resolved that Nelson continues for years to ignore. In fact, Nelson has made it quite clear that he doesn't listen because he doesn't care. Because of his neglect of his duties, each year the budget falls far short of being balanced. This year it appears to have climbed to over $8 Million dollars. Hundreds of thousands on dollars can't even be accounted for. It's time for change and that change needs to Nelson leaving and any commissioner that sides with his neglect of duties and continued disregard to maintaining city infrastructure, the fire dept and many other departments that are left short of being able to keep up with the constant onslaught of overdevelopment that continues to bury the city deeper in dept and understaffed.

Just a thought....I was watching a Biscayne Bay Commission meeting last night on tv, on the Florida Channel. It was mostly about water issues. What could be controlled, what could be changed, and what could not be controlled, regarding their water issues. Public comment period was toward the end, and then the commissioner's reports and concerns were given. The Apopka City Council meetings should be put on tv, on the Florida Channel, and we ALL could be reality tv stars! That would be soooo fun!

Hi Mamma Mia! I missed you!

Nick stop trying to make fetch happen it’s not gonna happen. Other cities have public comment at the end too. No where does it say that public comment has to be broadcast. I am so bummed it was cut out though, it was very entertaining.

Hello to you too, whackamole! Yeah, what are we supposed to do with the city council meeting cut off from viewing during public comment? Bring it back Mayor. You can still keep the public comments at the very end. I know we have heard some repetitive comments, and some ridiculous stuff, but that's the public. We came through town last night, and I was shocked to see the vehicle over in front of City Hall's frontage wrecked with the front end crashed and wrapped around one of the light poles. Plus the vehicle looked backed in. I can't imagine how that happened? I hope no one was hurt. The lights on City Hall looked beautiful lit up in red, white, and blue. Very nice. I also saw the artwork painted on the curbing on McGee St. at the water fountain behind the Burger King and hotel. I really like it. The pioneer leaders of Apopka, the animals, the Indian lady, the farm scene, Mead's Bottom, etc. Very nice! I love the artsy style, and the beautiful colors. The artist did a great job. My favorites were the beautiful panther, peacock, the bass fish, and the Mead's Bottom scene. I also like the new way finding directional signs going up!
