“Reaching 30,000 customers is a testament to the trust our communities place in Lake Apopka Natural Gas District,” said Brent E. Haywood, LANGD general manager and CEO. “This milestone reflects not only the steady growth of natural gas as a preferred energy source, but also our unwavering commitment to safety, reliability, and exceptional service. Every customer, employee, and partner of the District over its 65-year history has played a role in this achievement, and we are proud to continue expanding access to natural gas for even more homes and businesses across Central Florida.”
LANGD’s growth over the past decade has been remarkable, with a 93% expansion in service area as more homeowners and businesses turn to natural gas as their preferred energy source. This consistent growth also mirrors a nationwide trend. According to the American Gas Association, the U.S. added 640,000 residential natural gas consumers between 2021 and 2022, averaging 1,752 new customers daily. Additionally, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a growth of 1.5 million residential natural gas consumers from 2019 to 2021. This sustained growth reflects growing consumer confidence in natural gas as an efficient, reliable, and cost-effective energy solution, core values that drive LANGD’s mission.
Another key driver of LANGD’s continued growth is its push for Energy Choice. By working with member cities to provide more reliable access to natural gas from the start, new homeowners in West Orange and South Lake Counties will have the freedom to select the energy options that best fits their needs. LANGD plans to continue working to expand the Energy Choice Initiative throughout its service areas so that more homeowners and commercial customers can enjoy the freedom of selecting the energy mix that’s right for their home or business.
“With Central Florida’s population on the rise, LANGD remains focused on expanding access, modernizing infrastructure, and enhancing customer experience to serve even more homeowners and businesses making the switch to natural gas. We’re excited to reach 30,000 customers and look forward to continued growth for years to come,” said Haywood.
