On May 8, 2025, Vice Mayor and Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe announced that she was running for Orange County Mayor. The election, taking place on August 18 of this year, is to fill the vacancy left by County Mayor Jerry Demings, who is term-limited. Promising a brighter future for Orange County if elected, Uribe emphasizes family and community as essential building blocks for quality jobs, transportation, and accessible housing for the county’s one-and-a-half million residents.

“I’m running to lead with heart, listen with purpose, and fight for the families that make our community strong,” proclaimed Uribe in her campaign announcement press release. “I’d be honored to earn your vote for Orange County Mayor.”

It is an honor she does not take for granted. Since 2018, Mayra Uribe has served as Orange County Commissioner for District 3, achieving great success and multiple re-elections to the nonpartisan countywide office. Spend more than a few minutes with Uribe, and she will happily share with you that representing roughly a quarter-million residents in the very place that she grew up in has been a highlight of her life.

Uribe’s involvement in politics is her way of giving back to the community she loves. Not only was she born and raised in Orange County, but she also chose to continue her education at UCF and raise her family in Pine Castle. Uribe has been a part of the community fabric since day one. She understands that this has given her the uniquely informative perspective of seeing the county grow and develop -- as well as make mistakes -- through each step of her life.

But Uribe will be the first to admit that the road she traveled to get to where she is today was not easy. She had to fight every step of the way, battling decades of entrenched political forces for her place at the county table. One after another, she turned a legion of reluctant donors into staunch supporters and close friends. The firebrand leader even managed to turn a majority of Orange County’s finicky electorate (from both sides of the aisle) into an eager army of proud Mayra voters.

How did she do it? By working harder than everyone else. Uribe prides herself on her door-knocking prowess and boots-on-the-ground approach to campaigning. Chances are, if you live in District 3, Uribe has knocked on your door herself. Or that of your next-door neighbors. She loves talking to her constituents at their front door. It gives the hard-charging Uribe a clear perspective on what they see and hear, the conditions they live in, and the challenges they face. She wouldn’t have it any other way.

Listening. Fighting. Building. Three words that define what Uribe’s campaign for Orange County Mayor is all about. Throughout her political career, she has been willing to stand up and fight against powerful forces to do what is right for her neighbors and small business owners. But she’s also savvy enough to build important coalitions with those same forces to affect positive changes that benefit everybody. It is why she remains incredibly popular after years as a public servant.

Uribe’s top priorities are always front and center in her mission. She’s been a champion for higher-paying jobs, which she sees as essential for raising the standard of living. Another key area of focus is on creating more affordable housing for the county’s hardest-working folks eager to establish a stable home life. Uribe is also big on clean growth for Orange County, which has been badly mismanaged for many decades. It’s simple: Uribe thinks smarter growth is better growth. Another area she would like to see improvements in is transportation. County resources can be matched with well-thought-out planning to create better flow and utilization of existing infrastructure.

Mayra Uribe’s motivation begins at home. The proud wife and mother of two beautiful children wants the best for all families and their future. That desire for a better life for our community is what drove her to run for office for the first time in 2009. And she extends that very same commitment to improving the future to every resident of Orange County.

“Every step matters, and every voice counts,” says Uribe, who not only talks the talk but walks the walk.

Her track record of success as a County Commissioner is legendary, having helped feed over 12,600 families through food drives and directly providing more than 23,000 constituents with needed services.

Giving and grateful. Resourceful and efficient. Tenacious and tactful. It is all part of a work ethic unmatched in today’s cutthroat political landscape. Mayra Uribe simply gets things done.
