Legendary guitarist Pat Travers coming to Apopka this weekend

Posted
Pat Travers is a legendary 70s guitarist and performer that had seven songs on the Top 200 list and two Top 40 singles, including the party anthem classics "Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights), and Snortin' Whiskey."

Travers continues to record 40 years after those hits, and he's bringing his tour to Apopka this weekend.

The Apopka Professional Firefighters Association is proud to host a free concert with the goal of raising funds and awareness of a great Apopka charity. Local 5293 is proud to announce that Open Heart Farms will be the recipient of the funds raised during this event.

Open Hearts Farm is a 501c3 non-profit organization located in Apopka. This farm was started by Apopka Fire Department Renee Beasley and her husband David. After years of being part of developing a mental wellness program for the AFD, Renee, and Dave noticed that many wellness programs were using animals to help their first responders.

Renee was able to get her black lab, Ash, certified as a therapy dog and has had the honor of using Ash at the Apopka fire stations, other local fire stations, and local hospitals. The positive reactions people had from visits from Ash made Renee and Dave decide to make the program bigger and better, thus the creation of Open Hearts Farms.

The farm has 56 animals that call the farm their home, ranging from chickens and turkeys to cows and horses and everything in between. They currently have a program that is geared toward first responders that just need a getaway and some comfort time with the animals.

The Beasleys are also a big supporter of children with special needs and have hosted those children and their families.

Travers will perform on April 2nd at 3 Odd Guys, located at 48 E. 5Th Street in Apopka. Enjoy a true rock legend and support a wonderful local charity.
