Current September classes/events are listed below and on its events calendar.

Take Control of Your Money for Renters (Online)

Money management, renters’ rights, eviction prevention, and more! Offered via Zoom by a team of UF/IFAS Extension Agents, including Orange County Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez, this class is for residents looking for income-based assistance programs or anyone wanting to become a more savvy renter.

Preparing Your Fall Garden Webinar (Online or In Person)

Learn how to make a vegetable garden plan, build garden beds, and prepare a healthy soil for a great growing season! In this class presented by Orange County Extension Agent Calvin Gardner, we will dive into the basics for planning a garden this fall, including the different ways to grow vegetables, how to prep soil and the many types of amendments to create a healthy soil for your vegetables.

Beekeeping 101 – Is Beekeeping for Me? (Online)

Come learn if beekeeping is for you! In this very beginner class presented via Zoom by Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough, you'll learn about the important agricultural role honey bees play, how much it costs to get started, and the legality of keeping bees in your area. After this class, check out our Beekeeping 201 class!

Beekeeping 201 – Beekeeping Basics (In Person)

Come learn about the awesome hobby of beekeeping! Presented by Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough at the Seminole County Extension office in Sanford, you will learn about a Langstroth hive, the colonies’ caste system, how to acquire bees and more! True first-time beekeepers are encouraged, but not required, to attend Beekeeping 101 before this class.

First Time Homebuyer Workshop - ENGLISH 9/8 & 9/22 (Online)

Learn the steps to home ownership and how to obtain an affordable mortgage in this 2-part class offered via Zoom in ENLISH by a team of UF/IFAS Extension Agents, including Orange County Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez. The homebuyer workshop meets the education requirements for down payment assistance programs.

Beekeeping 201L – Hitting the Hives (In Person) 

Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough is presenting a hands-on follow up to Beekeeping 201* at the UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County in Sanford. You will learn how to light a smoker, choose the proper PPE for you, go through a routine hive inspection, do a varroa shake and more! *Completion of Beekeeping 201 is required prior to taking this class.

Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) (In person)

A science-based educational program for lawn care and landscape maintenance workers. Pre-requisite for the Urban Fertilizer License. Presented by Orange County Extension Agent Hannah Wooten, this class covers proper fertilization, pest control, irrigation, and cultural practices for landscape and pest control professionals.

Orange County 4-H Kick-Off (In Person)

Want to learn more about opportunities in the 4-H program?  Attend this free event held at the Extension Education Center.  Our 4-H clubs will have booths set up to highlight their projects and answer questions.  There will be a scavenger hunt with prizes for kids who visit every club.  The 4-H program is open to all youth ages 5-18 as of September 1st of the program year.

Adopt-A-Tree (In Person) 

Join our UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Volunteers at Magnolia Park, located at 2929 S Binion Rd., Apopka, for our Adopt-A-Tree event! Open to all Orange County residents with proof of residency such as a driver’s license, utility bill, or photo I.D. Each household is eligible to receive two trees, and the trees may be planted on resident’s private property only. Trees are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and varieties will vary based on availability, but all will be suitable to flourish in Zone 9B.

Let’s Walk Florida Orientation (Online)

Let's Walk Florida! is a 6-week virtual educational program designed to help Floridians achieve and maintain health through physical activity. UF/IFAS Extension health experts provide participants with healthy lifestyle strategies and exercises for all fitness levels. Open to individuals, families, and organized teams, you’ll compete with others from your county and across the state to earn awards and prizes!

gARTening Series: Sugar Skull Decorative Pots & Marigold Fiesta (In Person)

September is Hispanic Heritage Month! To celebrate the occasion, we will be decorating 6” pots to resemble sugar skulls, learning about marigolds and the cultural significance to the Día De Los Muertos November Holiday, and the benefits of gardening with marigold flowers. Join UF/IFAS Extension Orange County Agent Clarissa Chairez and Master Gardener Volunteers to decorate your own planter and take a pack of marigold seeds home! Fun for all ages!
