From the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District
More than 5 million homes and businesses throughout the United States use natural gas provided by public natural gas utilities – and with good reason. Natural gas is highly reliable, available in abundance, environmentally friendly and very efficient. Whether it’s used for cooking, heating and hot water in the home or in larger quantities for agricultural and industrial applications, natural gas is always there when you need it, and at a price that helps to lower energy bills.
In early October, the public is invited to learn more about the benefits of natural gas during Lake Apopka Natural Gas District’s celebration of Public Natural Gas Week. Since 1959, the District has provided safe, reliable and cost-effective natural gas to a customer base that has grown to more than 20,000.
Public Natural Gas Week is an annual, nationwide event dedicated to building awareness of the value of having a community-owned natural gas distribution system and the wealth of benefits offered to consumers of natural gas.
Lake Apopka Natural Gas District customers, as well as other members of the community, are invited to stop by any of the District’s three offices at 1320 Winter Garden-Vineland Road, Winter Garden, 38 N. Park Avenue, Apopka, or 676 W. Montrose Street, Clermont, from October 2-6, 2017, to enjoy refreshments, learn more about natural gas service and cost benefits of natural gas appliances, and take home a complimentary 2018 natural gas-themed calendar.
Public natural gas utilities include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities. As public gas systems are owned by the community and avoid stockholder pressure, customers are provided competitive costs and the assurance that local dollars stay at home.
Public gas systems play a valuable role in helping communities broaden their tax base to benefit local economies and create jobs. And, as public gas systems are controlled locally, they are better able to focus on customer service. By maintaining close ties and relationships with the communities they serve, public gas systems have their finger on the pulse of their customers and, as a result, are able to successfully meet their needs.
Nowhere is that more true than in Apopka, Winter Garden, Clermont and surrounding communities, where the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District has, for years, not only provided natural gas service, but also engaged in community events and partnerships.
The Lake Apopka Natural Gas District, which has been honored with the SOAR Silver Award by the American Public Gas Association for excellence in operations, is committed to providing its customers with reliable and safe natural gas all year long.
