Lake Apopka wildlife drive open on Memorial Day

The St. Johns River Water Management District’s popular wildlife drive at Lake Apopka is open Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. While the drive is typically closed Monday through Thursday, the district is opening the lands to offer residents an additional opportunity to enjoy the drive through the holiday weekend.

An audio guide provides visitors with a narrative on the area’s history, wildlife, and district-led restoration efforts. Since the drive opened, more than 130,000 visitors have experienced a variety of wildlife viewing opportunities along a network of wetlands, levees, and canals.
