From K9s United
On Saturday, November 19th, K9s United will host its 4th annual 9K for K9s at the Northwest Recreational Complex in Apopka to support and honor canine law enforcement officers who protect and serve our communities. The family-friendly event begins at 8 a.m. and will include a one-mile fun run (untimed), classic 5K, and challenging 9K race options.
Virtual “no excuse” runs for the 5k and 9k races are also available for those who cannot participate in person but still want to support the cause.
The race will culminate with an awards ceremony, K-9 demonstrations, and photo opportunities with K-9 heroes from surrounding law enforcement agencies. The family-friendly event will also feature arts and crafts, building activities for children, vendors, and more. The event will also honor fallen K-9 Max, who bravely served his community with the Lake Wales Police Department before his tragic death in the line of duty earlier this year.
Runners and walkers of all levels are encouraged to register now to participate in 9K for K9s events. Each race registrant will receive a finisher medal featuring a signature design to honor K-9 Max. Those who register by Nov. 6 are guaranteed to receive an official race t-shirt. After the deadline, registrants will receive a commemorative dog bandana. Both the 5k and 9k will be chip timed with awards for the top runners in each category.
Though dogs make exceptional running and walking partners, only service dogs will be permitted. K9s United asks all participants and attendees to leave their four-legged companions at home for the safety of all participants and working dogs.
Many law enforcement agencies do not have the necessary funding to provide their K-9 units with the vital resources they require, including advanced training, equipment and kennels, vehicle heat alarms and door poppers, canine emergency kits and bulletproof vests, and other larger health expenses. Through community and corporate support, K9s United helps fill that void and aid law enforcement agencies to ensure their K-9 units have the training, programs, and supplies the dogs need.
All proceeds benefit K9s United to support its mission to educate, train and provide vital equipment and services to K-9 teams. K-9 law enforcement supporters can help advance the organization’s mission by joining the K9 Corps, a recurring monthly donation program, or by pre-ordering the K9s United specialty license plate for Florida drivers.
K9s United is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to supporting K9 law enforcement officers who protect and serve our communities by giving them the best equipment, amenities, and quality of life during and after their service and memorializing those who give the ultimate sacrifice.
