iPromise: Over 40 businesses and community members take the pledge in Apopka

Posted

The iPromise Garden project has taken Apopka by storm, starting with famous TikTok personality and gardening enthusiast Marcus Bridgewater, @gardenmarcus, taking the pledge.

The Drew Barrymore Show, Vogue Magazine, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and a host of other platforms have featured Marcus already. With over 650,000 TikTok followers and eight million likes, this was a huge step for iPromise and the Re-imagine Communities.

With his positive life lessons through gardening, it was a no-brainer for Re-imagine Communities and the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) to partner with Marcus to help spread the message of nurturing your garden and yourself, as is the title of his new book: How to Grow: Nurture Your Garden, Nurture Yourself.

But the iPromise movement didn’t stop there.

On Earth Day, we visited Phillis Wheatley Elementary with the  Chamber to drop off plants that they had donated to the school, and congratulated the Garden Club for taking the pledge. Not only did they take the pledge, but their own Principal Miller and some staff members took it as well!

The students have a board hanging up with the iPromise Pledge on it, and if they choose to take the pledge, they sign the board as a reminder that they have committed to being positive... no bullying, and no disrespect in class. And if they witness someone doing something wrong, they will stand up for what’s right as well.

We can all use these lessons, but the day didn’t end there.

At Highland Christian Academy Apopka (HCA), they not only embraced the pledge, but thanks to the Chamber and their Apopka Serves project, Planting Apopka, and artist Bernadette Cipriani-Major, HCA now has an official iPromise mural drawn just for them! The school went even further and put out a Facebook post encouraging the parents to take the pledge as well. The mural is just outside the garden, which had been improved during Apopka Serves Day. The mural and the garden together both serve as a beautiful reminder to the kids of their commitment to the iPromise Pledge.
