From Hope Community Center
Hope CommUnity Center urgently calls for community support as its emergency food pantry faces critical shortages. The pantry is a lifeline for immigrants and vulnerable community members struggling to make ends meet. Due to the increasing cost of food, threats of trade wars, and uncertainty in the labor market, low-income communities face more significant challenges in managing their cost of living. This situation highlights the urgent need to reactivate local food pantries.
At the same time, federal cuts to several aid programs have impacted food donations to the pantry. Until recently, Hope relied on support from Second Harvest Food Bank to stock pantry staples. But recent funding cuts have severed this supply line. Hope now faces significantly higher costs to "shop" for food to stock its pantry, putting a strain on its ability to serve needy families.
To bridge this gap, Hope is launching a food drive and asking businesses and the community to donate much-needed items, including rice, beans, flour, pasta, canned proteins, baby food, and diapers.
- FOOD donations can be dropped off at Hope CommUnity Center, 1016 N. Park Avenue, Apopka, FL 32701.
- CA$H donations for the food drive are also welcome by clicking here.
- Organizations, churches, schools, and allies interested in organizing their own food drives on behalf of Hope are invited to reach out to coordinate efforts.
