Healing Hearts, Hooves & Hope

Heartland Haven Foundation's rescue horses need your support

Posted

At Heartland Haven Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Apopka, horses are far more than animals—they are healers, companions, and partners in the transformative journey of equine-partnered healing, growth, and education. These extraordinary creatures, once rescued from dire circumstances, now help children, families, and individuals overcome life’s challenges, offering hope and connection through their gentle strength.

Each horse at Heartland Haven tells a story of resilience and symbolizes the healing power of second chances. However, rescue animals often come with unique health needs that require ongoing care and attention. This month, the Foundation faces an especially challenging hurdle: veterinary bills totaling $1,838.

With your support, we can ensure these therapy horses receive the care they need to continue their vital role in transforming lives.

How you can help

Every dollar donated goes directly to providing these horses with the care they deserve. From chiropractic adjustments to medications and routine vaccinations, your support has a tangible impact on their well-being.

“These horses aren’t just animals—they’re healers,” says Angela Jackson, the founder of Heartland Haven Foundation. “Every time they connect with a child struggling with confidence, a family in need of hope, or an individual overcoming trauma, their impact is immeasurable. But to continue that work, we need to ensure they’re cared for in the best possible way.”

Whether it’s $5 or $500, your contribution helps us take another step toward covering this month’s veterinary costs. Together, we can show these incredible animals the love and compassion they’ve shown to so many.

Meet our healing herd

Lincoln – The Majestic Leader (Think Denzel Washington)

Lincoln
Lincoln
Lincoln exudes calm authority and confidence, much like Denzel Washington. As the first horse to call Heartland Haven home, Lincoln is a natural leader. He helps participants develop assertiveness, communication, and confidence, inspiring everyone he meets. Lincoln has been limping due to a painful hoof abscess. His strength and resilience inspire everyone at the Foundation, but he needs treatment to regain his full mobility and confidence.

Squeaks – The Bold Explorer (Think Carrot Top)

Squeaks
Squeaks
Squeaks, with his curious and playful nature, is often the first to greet visitors. His sensitive spirit helps clients discover authenticity and boldness during therapy sessions. Once overlooked as a show jumper, Squeaks has found his true purpose as a lead equine partner at Heartland Haven.

Lulu – The Comedian (Think Joan Rivers)

Lulu
Lulu
Lulu’s bold energy and mischievous personality make her the comedian of the herd, always keeping everyone on their toes with her playful antics. As a standout favorite, especially for clients who need a smaller equine partner, Lulu excels at teaching lessons about calmness, inspiration, and healthy boundaries. Recently, this sweet and spirited girl faced a tough battle with laminitis, a painful condition affecting her hooves. Lulu’s determination and zest for life inspire everyone she meets, proving that even the smallest horses can make the biggest impact.

Wyatt – The Heartfelt Companion (Think Tom Hanks)

Wyatt
Wyatt
Wyatt’s gentle, kind nature makes him an instant favorite. After losing his lifelong companion, he found comfort with Lulu and has since become a trusted partner for clients in literacy and therapy programs. Currently training for the “Reading with Rio” program, Wyatt offers unique comfort and connection.

Kopper – The Maverick (Think Johnny Depp)

Kopper
Kopper
Kopper, with his playful and rebellious spirit, mirrors Johnny Depp’s edgy charm. Rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management in Utah and later rescued from neglect and starvation in Texas, Kopper’s journey is one of remarkable resilience. Despite his early struggles and a facial injury, his playful spirit remains intact. With proper treatment, he’s making progress, but continued care is critical for his recovery.

Chance – The Lovable Comedian (Think Kevin Hart)

Chance
Chance
Chance is the jokester of the herd, bringing laughter and lightness to every encounter. Rescued from the wild in Wyoming, he has overcome significant challenges and now provides a calming, intuitive presence to help clients work through fear and trauma.

In addition to these special cases, routine vaccines and health checks are essential to keep the entire herd healthy and happy, ensuring they can continue their incredible work as therapy partners.
