In an emergency, minutes matter. Apopka residents and visitors now have a conveniently located emergency care facility open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to treat serious injuries and illnesses.

HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency is a new freestanding emergency department serving Apopka and surrounding communities at 2757 West Orange Blossom Trail. The facility is part of HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital and continues HCA Florida Healthcare’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality emergency care across Central Florida.

“As Apopka and northwest Orange County continue to grow, access to timely, high-quality emergency care close to home is more important than ever,” said John Gerhold, chief executive officer of HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. “We are honored to open HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency and provide compassionate, patient-centered emergency care to residents and visitors in the surrounding community.”

Onsite diagnostics and treatment

That convenient access to emergency care was a great relief to Madeline, a car accident victim who was recently treated at the ER for her injuries.

“HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency has a joyful staff who genuinely care about your best interest and make a bad day or situation better," Madeline said. "I’m excited to finally have a place close to home that provides a genuine, caring, and comfortable environment to receive emergency care.”

Her boyfriend Nicholas expressed gratitude that the ER was nearby and open 24/7.

“The team has been amazing from the start and took great care of her,” he said.

HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency is staffed with board-certified emergency medicine doctors and experienced emergency nurses, delivering the same level of care patients expect from a hospital-based emergency department. The team is equipped to treat a wide range of conditions, including serious infections, chest pain, traumatic injuries, and broken bones.

Caring for both adults and children, HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency offers:

  • Private emergency treatment rooms
  • Advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT, ultrasound, and X-ray
  • On-site laboratory services
  • Telemedicine technology, including support for stroke care and behavioral health needs

A network of emergency care expertise

The size and strength of the HCA Healthcare network provide ER patients access to the latest in medical advances and technologies as well as the knowledge and support of medical experts throughout Florida and across the United States. With the largest emergency care network in the state and the largest trauma care network in the country, HCA Healthcare analyzes data from more than 43 million patient encounters each year. This data helps develop technologies and best practices that improve patient care.

In Central Florida, HCA Florida Healthcare has five full-service hospitals, including two trauma centers and two comprehensive stroke centers. With the addition of HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency, the HCA Florida Healthcare family now also includes 17 freestanding emergency rooms across the region, conveniently located in growing communities to provide expert emergency care when you need it fast. It may be much quicker for a patient to get to the closest freestanding emergency room than to drive across town through traffic to a hospital. For a local family, having emergency services available a few blocks away can be lifesaving as well as provide peace of mind.

Emergency care vs urgent care

HCA Florida Healthcare’s freestanding emergency rooms are focused specifically on potentially life-threatening emergency healthcare needs. Some examples of emergency healthcare symptoms are chest pain, heavy bleeding, head injuries with loss of consciousness or disorientation, and stroke symptoms. If you are seriously hurt or experiencing severe illness that needs immediate attention, HCA Florida Wekiva Emergency and HCA Florida Healthcare’s specialized emergency care facilities across Central Florida are equipped and ready to help. If you think you or a loved one is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Urgent care facilities, such as HCA Florida Healthcare’s MD Now locations, treat less serious illnesses and injuries, including cold symptoms and minor cuts and bruises. If you are unsure about the severity of an illness or injury and aren’t sure whether to seek treatment, HCA Healthcare has a free phone service called Consult-A-Nurse. You can call 24/7 to speak directly to an experienced nurse for advice at 844-70-NURSE (6-8773). HCA Healthcare is the only healthcare system offering Consult-A-Nurse, and the free phone call is available to anyone, any time of day or night.
