Apopka Fire/Police Department Safety Tips:

The City of Apopka, Apopka Police Department, & Apopka Fire Department would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day this year!
Here are some safety tips:
1) Only use fireworks outdoors, away from dry grass, homes, and trees.
2) Light one firework at a time and keep a safe distance.
3) Keep a bucket of water and hose nearby in case you need to extinguish a fire or a firework.
4) Soak spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding.
5) Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
6) Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eye wear and ear plugs.
7) There is danger is celebrating with gunfire in the air. Research has found that a bullet fired into the sky can climb up to two miles and remain in flight for more than a minute. As it falls, the bullet reaches a velocity of 300 to 700 feet per second, which can kill or seriously injure someone.
