An iconic barbecue restaurant has left Apopka, but a brand new Mexican restaurant is coming soon to take its place.

The owners of Bubbalous Bodacious BBQ in Apopka, which closed its doors in January, has been sold to an investment group that will bring El Cielito Lindo Mexican Restaurant to at 1701 Rock Springs Road in the Shoppes in Wekiva Plaza Shopping Center. El Cielito Lindo is a brand affiliated with Habaneros Mexican Grill in Central Florida, which has locations in Longwood, Orlando, Oviedo, Sanford, and Winter Park.

In January, Bubbalous announced its closing on its Facebook page:

"We are very sad to announce that we have closed our Apopka location. For almost the past two years, we have stayed ahead of the pandemic and everything surrounding it. With all of the obstacles we have faced, we have given it our best shot, but can no longer justify staying open. There’s no one to blame. There’s no situation to blame. We are making every attempt to place our staff at our other locations, or help them facilitate gaining employment at other local restaurants. They are a great team and they richly deserve this help in their transition."

They went on to thank Apopka for their patronage.

"This post is to say thank you to the City of Apopka and our great customers. It is not being made to open the door for criticism and harsh words," they wrote. "Please do not feel the need to criticize or make what was already a hard decision worse. We will miss you, Apopka!"

According to a news release from the broker who represented the seller, the property was sold for $1.575 million to V3 Capital.

The opening of El Cielito Lindo Mexican Restaurant in Apopka is projected for the second quarter of 2022.
