Inspiration
By Pastor Doug Bankson
I Sat By The Seashore
I sat by the seashore to watch the sun rise
Awaiting its splendor to fill up the skies
Alone as the darkness gave way to the light
I marveled and bid my adieu to the night
A sliver of moon began fading away
As clouds now unfolding revealed the new day
The rays first appeared as long brushstrokes abroad
I felt that I watched o'er the shoulder of God
As gently He painted and colors appeared
Such heavenly hues as the golden globe neared
Transfixed by such beauty I waited to see
And watched as He painted as if just for me
I knew that He knew I was watching the dawn
And it seemed to please Him to know I looked on
He continued to work as though I was not there
While smiling within to know He held my stare
I looked up and down and I smiled as I knew
That we shared this moment alone, just we two
And then there it was as it suddenly came
The first glint of sunrise revealing its fame
The light through the haze now emerged from the sea
As deep azure melted and waves danced with glee
It seemed that the painter stepped back to observe
And I too, as sunlight formed into a curve
I was taken aback at how fast the orb grew
As steadily rising a minute, then two
Then at the last moment before it took flight
It seemed that the ocean was grasping it tight
Until the refraction could hold it no more
The sunrise set free was now ready to soar
And so I arose from my seat by the sea
And took back the breath which was taken from me
Then I thanked the painter and He seemed to say,
"Son, that's just the bow; the real gift is this day."
I looked once again as the waves did applaud
And I knew that I'd been in the presence of God
