The Pantry at St. Francis is holding its 16th annual golf tournament to benefit the poor and needy in the greater Apopka area. The tournament will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Apopka Golf and Tennis at Errol Estate, 1355 Errol Parkway, Apopka. Interested golfers, sponsors, or donors should contact Jackie Jones at 407-637-6461.
The Pantry is located at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 834 S. Highway 441, Apopka. It is open from 9 a.m. until noon every Friday morning for emergency help, and on the first and third Fridays, clients have free choices of food staples, and some personal care items. On the other two Fridays, volunteers deliver food to those unable to visit the pantry. When funds are available, our clients are also assisted with medicines, transportation, emergency housing, clothing and household furnishings.
All Pantry workers are volunteers. The church provides space rent-free, and almost 100% of our funds go to help our needy visitors. All funds are donated and contributions are tax deductible.
Last year The Pantry handed out about 102,000 lbs of food to around 17,000 people.
The event will begin at noon with registrations, free range practice and a putting contest. Shotgun scramble start time is at 1:00. Entry forms are available from the Apopka Golf and Tennis Club at Errol or at St. Francis of Assisi. A cash raffle, auction and door prizes will lend to the the fun of this event to benefit The Pantry followed by dinner and prizes.
