Golf Tournament honors fallen Apopka Firefighter

Posted

Armando Borjas, Jr. spent 14 years fighting fires and saving lives with the Apopka Fire Department after serving 7 years on active duty in the United Sates Marine Corps.

Sadly, in 2011, he was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer. Armando bravely battled this diagnosis until his death in 2013. Armando was only 39 years old.

Armando was a loving father, son, husband, and brother to his fellow firefighters. No matter how hard his struggle was he always had a smile on his face and a encouraging word for those around him.

In an effort to keep his memory alive, his fellow firefighters have organized a golf tournament and established a scholarship fund. All proceeds benefit a memorial scholarship fund in his name. This scholarship will help send a local youth to Fire and EMT school and carry on Armando's legacy of public service.
