Becker, a member of the Apopka City Council from 2016 to 2024 and who ran for mayor himself, said his endorsement is rooted in Nesta’s leadership style and vision for the city.
“It is with great privilege and absolute surety that I endorse Commissioner Nick Nesta’s efforts to serve as the next Mayor of Apopka,” Becker said in a statement released by the campaign. He described Nesta as “the only candidate with the ability to rid Apopka of the ‘gotcha’ politics and outdated ways of thinking that have hindered the city from reaching its full potential.”
Becker and Nesta served together on the Apopka City Commission, a period during which Becker said he gained firsthand insight into Nesta’s character and priorities. He emphasized Nesta’s personal ties to the city, noting that Nesta grew up in Apopka and has built his family and career there.
“During our time serving together, it became abundantly clear that Commissioner Nesta has a genuine heart for his hometown and for the people who live here,” Becker said. “I have full confidence that he will always lead in the best interests of those who call Apopka home—today and in the future.”
In his statement, Becker outlined several priorities he believes Nesta would bring to the mayor’s office, including open and effective leadership, fostering a respectful environment for city employees and residents, responsibly managing growth, identifying budget efficiencies, and investing in capital improvements.
“If you are looking for accessibility, transparency, respect, trust, fiscal responsibility, and a leader who understands Apopka’s roots while building its future, Nick Nesta is the clear choice for Mayor of Apopka,” Becker said.
Nesta welcomed Becker’s endorsement, calling it especially meaningful given Becker’s experience in city leadership and long-standing involvement in Apopka civic life. He said Becker’s support reflects shared values around transparency, accountability, and a desire to move the city forward.
