Apopka Commissioner Doug Bankson, in his bid to become the Republican nominee for State House District 39, has received the endorsement of the Florida Republican Assembly.
"I am so pleased to have received the endorsement of the FRAOC and as always I pledge to work hard to earn the confidence they and others have placed in me," said Bankson. "Our campaign is going well and this is more wind in the sails for which I’m grateful."
The FRAOC endorsed five candidates in Orange County.
“These candidates are working around the clock to connect with voters and share their conservative message throughout Central Florida,” said Lou Marin, executive Vice President of the Florida Republican Assembly.
The newly formed Florida House District 39 includes Apopka, parts of northwestern Orange County, western Seminole County, and parts of Winter Garden, Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Zellwood, and Wekiva Springs. It's projected as a battleground district that does not heavily favor a Democrat or Republican.
The organization endorsed Bankson over two other Republicans in the field - Orange County Republican Chair Charles Hart, and Republican activist Randy Ross.
Two Democrats have also filed to run for District 39 - Tiffany Hughes and Luther Dowe.
Bankson held Seat #3 on the Apopka City Council for six years - beginning with a victory over incumbent Commissioner Sam Ruth in 2016 with 56% of the vote (in the runoff) and a successful reelection campaign in 2020 with 60% of the vote.
The primary for District 39 is on August 23rd. The general election is on November 8th.
According to its website, the Florida Republican Assembly is a Chartered Affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA), is a political organization that promotes conservative principles and candidates within the Republican Party... the home of Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, and Fredrick Douglas Republicans. Members at the local, state, and national levels work to recruit and elect Republican candidates who reflect the Party’s true Conservative philosophy.
