From The Florida Highway Patrol
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run fatality last night on Hiawassee Road and Laurel Hill Drive around 8:20PM.
The crash occurred when a northbound pickup truck struck an adult male pedestrian that was attempting to cross Hiawassee Road. That vehicle stayed on scene. After the pedestrian was struck, he came to final rest in the southbound lanes, where a Nissan Altima traveling southbound also hit him and pulled off the road. The driver of the Nissan observed several other southbound vehicles run over the victim, but none stopped.
Troopers are asking anyone that was traveling southbound on Hiawassee to contact FHP at 407-737-2213, if they think they may have run over the victim. Anyone with information about any vehicles that left the scene are asked to call the FHP as well. The victims name is being witheld until the medical examiner makes a positive identification. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
