The Apopka Police Department recorded five burglary-related incidents during the week of June 14 through June 20, according to the department's latest burglary report. The incidents included one residential burglary, three vehicle burglaries, and one commercial burglary.

Three vehicle burglaries were reported during the week. One occurred in the 2930-2939 block of Rolling Hills Lane and was reported on June 15. Additional vehicle burglaries were reported on June 16 in the 860-869 block of Creeping Fig Street and the 2750-2759 block of Flushing Drive.

Police also documented a commercial burglary in the 2150-2159 block of East Semoran Boulevard. That incident was reported on June 20.

The report does not provide additional details regarding suspects, arrests, or property losses. The Apopka Police Department notes that incidents remain subject to change pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Residents are encouraged to lock vehicles, secure homes and businesses, remove valuables from plain sight, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The weekly burglary report is released by the Apopka Police Department as part of its ongoing effort to keep residents informed about crime trends within the city.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

Chief Michael McKinley of the Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors

The breakdown of the burglaries reported to the Apopka Police Department last week:
