An unknown number. A suspicious email. An urgent alert from what seems like your bank.

These are all signs of a potential scam, many of which target seniors. The FBI says that people lost more than $3.4 billion to elder fraud in 2023, costing the average victim nearly $34,000!

Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) – in its second collaboration with Perez Technology Group – is donating 5,000 downloads of CyberFence to local seniors in 2025.

The user-friendly app blocks cybersecurity threats and encrypts sensitive data to ensure peace of mind and protect vulnerable older adults when navigating the growing digital landscape. Five thousand downloads were donated in 2024.

Elder fraud, often occurring online, cost the average victim nearly $34,000 in 2023, with more than $3.4 billion in losses nationwide. Common scams include:

  • Tech support schemes
  • Phishing and smishing
  • Fake shopping websites

“More of day-to-day life is going digital, which means there are increased opportunities for bad actors to take advantage of people,” said Karla Radka, President & CEO of SRA. “This partnership empowers Central Florida’s seniors to schedule telehealth appointments and connect with loved ones virtually without worrying about criminals stealing their private information or hard-earned money.”
