HBO and HBO Max will enter September with new episodes of several prominent series, the conclusion of multiple summer programs, and the streaming arrival of A24’s hit horror film “Backrooms.”
Related: Everything streaming in August.
The month’s biggest movie addition is “Backrooms,” which begins streaming exclusively on HBO Max on September 25 before making its HBO television debut September 26 at 8 pm. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.
Directed by Kane Parsons, “Backrooms” follows a therapist who enters a mysterious dimension to search for a missing patient. The movie grew from the viral internet horror concept built around an apparently endless maze of empty, yellow rooms.
September will also bring four more episodes of “Lanterns,” the DC Studios drama starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The eight-episode series follows the two intergalactic law-enforcement officers as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Episodes four through seven will arrive on consecutive Sundays, beginning Sept. 6. The season finale is scheduled for October.
“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” the science-fiction comedy connected to “The Big Bang Theory,” will complete its first season Sept. 24. New episodes will arrive each Thursday throughout the month.
The series stars Kevin Sussman as comic-book store owner Stuart Bloom, who triggers a multiverse crisis after tampering with a device created by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie reprise their roles from “The Big Bang Theory.”
The month will also include the final two episodes of “Conan O’Brien Must Go.” The travel series follows O’Brien as he visits fans he previously met through his podcast while exploring destinations including India, the Netherlands, Morocco and the Philippines. The four-episode season concludes September 11.
“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Seattle Seahawks” will close its season September 8. The HBO and NFL Films series follows the defending Super Bowl champions as they prepare for another season.
The five-part documentary series “Monsters of God” concludes September 3 with “Head of the Snake.” Directed by “Tiger King” filmmaker Eric Goode, the series examines the international trade in rare reptiles and its connections to drug trafficking, organized crime and wildlife smuggling.
HBO Max traditionally adds licensed movies and programs from Warner Bros. Discovery’s cable networks throughout each month. The company had not released its complete U.S. catalog-addition list at the time of publication, so it may announce additional September titles.
