AppleTV+ will be ringing in the new year with two high-profile TV shows, one that will reunite Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and a British crime drama that will thrill audiences.
As well as these series, Apple TV+ is expected to soon announce the streaming release for blockbuster films Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, the former of which is more likely to land on the platform in January following its successful run in cinemas. Elsewhere in the month, some Apple TV+ shows will come to their dramatic conclusion: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and the fourth season of For All Mankind.
They delivered Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and now Spielberg and Hanks are producing a brand new war drama centred on the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War in Masters of the Air. Like its predecessors, Masters of the Air features a huge ensemble cast of up-and-coming talent from Callum Turner to Austin Butler, Anthony Boyle to Barry Keoghan.
The Apple TV+ series will explore the actions of the brave men that served in the 100th Bomb Group during the Second World War, and the combat missions they took part in to help in the fight against Nazi Germany.
Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo star as two police officers who begin a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with one another after Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Jumbo) is alerted to a 999 call of someone claiming their abuse partner is behind an old murder, which was closed by Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi) and led to a man being sent to prison for life.
As Lenker looks further into the call and the possibility that the man sent to prison may be innocent she is faced with challenges from Hegarty, who is hiding a number of dark secrets and will do anything to keep them hidden.
Martin Scorsese's newest film explores the shocking true story of the murders of several members of the Osage Nation during the 1920s after oil was discovered on their land. It follows Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he is tasked with romancing Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone) so that he and his family may inherit her riches, and the brutality that took place in Oklahoma at the time.
The film was released in cinemas in October and was given a digital release in December, so it is expected to land on the streaming platform in due course.
Another blockbuster film that has been doing well in cinemas is Napoleon, Ridley Scott's war epic about the former French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (Joaquin Phoenix) and his rise to power, as well as his romance with his wife Josephine (Vanessa Kirby). The drama was released after Killers of the Flower Moon, so it may not be made available to stream before but it is expected to land on Apple TV+ soon.
