A surge of voters marked the final hours of early voting in Apopka on Sunday, raising a question that will be answered soon enough: Was the late push foreshadowing a record turnout on Election Day?
With just one day remaining before the polls open for the city’s 2026 municipal election, 5,107 Apopka residents have already cast ballots, according to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections. That total represents 13.2% of the city’s 38,698 registered voters before the final round of voting on Tuesday.
A total of 2,090 ballots were returned by mail, while 3,017 were cast during early voting, which ran for seven consecutive days at the Apopka Community Center.
Sunday, the final day of early voting, produced the busiest turnout of the week. 675 voters cast ballots in person before the polls closed at 7 pm, the highest single-day total since early voting began on March 2.
Party registration data also reveals that registered Democrats currently account for the largest share of ballots cast, with 2,275 votes recorded so far, compared with 1,851 from registered Republicans. Another 887 ballots have been cast by voters with no party affiliation (NPA), while 94 voters registered with minor parties have also participated.
The early turnout pattern marks a shift from the city’s last mayoral election. In 2022, Republicans led Democrats, casting 3,043 ballots compared with 2,600 by Democrats, along with 1,103 ballots from voters with no party affiliation.
Even with more than 5,000 ballots already recorded, most of Apopka’s voters have yet to participate. In 2022, the mayoral election ultimately drew 6,775 total votes, including 3,128 vote-by-mail ballots, 1,622 early votes, and 2,067 ballots cast on Election Day.
When the polls open on March 10, thousands of voters who have not yet participated will have one final chance to shape the outcome of their city's leadership.
