From Staff Reports
Apopka residents took advantage of the first day of early voting at the VFW/Apopka Community Center by casting 265 ballots. That, combined with 2,387 vote-by-mail ballots already received means 2,681 voters have already weighed in for the 2022 Apopka Municipal elections.
That figure already eclipses the entire early voting totals for 2018, when 2,631 votes were cast. And with five days of early voting still to come, it's still possible that 2022 could be the largest turnout for a mayoral election in Apopka history.
According to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, 1,181 (44%) of the ballots received are from registered Republicans, 999 (37.3%) are from Democrats, and 501 (18.7%) are listed as independent, no party affiliation, or others.
In 2018, 2,575 (39.6%) Apopka voters used vote-by-mail ballots, while 3,856 (59.38%) voted on election day. Only 25 voters made the drive to Orlando to the SOE office to vote early, but with early voting at the VFW/Apopka Comunity Center in 2022, that figure is expected to increase significantly. In total, 6,492 voters participated in the 2018 election, which was a 20.7% turnout rate.
