Tail-wagging fun awaits canines at more than a dozen dog parks throughout Orange County. These dog-friendly spots provide an outdoor oasis for four-legged friends to enjoy off-leash exercise, bonding time, and socialization.
Fenced-in dog destinations welcome pets at 13 dog parks scattered across the Orange County Parks & Recreation network. Two new facilities were added in 2023 at Wedgefield Park and Cypress Park due to increased demand from pet owners.
“Orange County Parks are all about providing recreation for the well-being of our communities. We continue to invest in spaces where dogs can exercise and interact with other dogs in a safe environment,” said Matt Suedemeyer, Manager of Orange County Parks & Recreation.
All dog parks offer double-gated entrances, water stations for both pups and owners, shady areas with benches, and dog waste stations for easy cleanup. Two large fenced-in play areas separate the over 30-pound dogs from smaller breeds.
But before you leash up with your pooch, here are some tips to make for a “pawsitively” playful time.
- Scout It – Best to check out the facility prior to your first visit, to avoid any surprises.
- Mind Your Manners – Don’t bring a naughty pet to the park. Do some training at home for a more rewarding visit.
- Pay Attention – Watch your furry friend’s behavior around other dogs.
- Safety First– Read the park rules so you are aware of what’s allowed and expected.
- Let ’em Run – Bring on the zoomies, play fetch and let your dog burn off some energy.
- Proper Fit – Don’t bring massive dogs into areas designated for little dogs.
- Cool Down – Know when your dog is tired and relish some chill time together.
Dog parks are offered at Barber Park, Barnett Park, Cypress Grove Park, Downey Park, Dr. P. Phillips Community Park, Independence Park, Lester Mandell Park, Meadow Woods Park, Summerport Neighborhood Park, Wedgefield Park, West Orange Park, Young Pine Community Park and Yucatan Park.
While most other Orange County parks welcome leashed pets, Kelly Park, Moss Park, Fort Christmas Historical Park and Tibet-Butler Preserve only allow ADA service dogs.
