William Dabbs, a Rock Springs Ridge resident and first-time candidate for elected office, has withdrawn from the Apopka mayoral election, ending his bid months before the March 2026 contest. Dabbs announced his candidacy in May with a platform centered on community engagement, transparency in local government, and managing Apopka’s rapid growth.

He released the following statement to The Apopka Voice:
"After much reflection, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for Mayor," he said. "This was not an easy decision, but due to increasingly time-consuming obligations in my personal and professional life, I am unable to dedicate the time and focus this campaign—and ultimately this office—deserves. I am grateful to everyone who supported me and shared their hopes for our community."
Dabbs' withdrawal reshapes the race, leaving Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore and incumbent Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson as the remaining candidates currently seeking the position.
No other candidates have filed to run for mayor or seats 1 or 2 on the city commission. Commissioner Diane Velazquez has announced she will seek re-election to Seat 2, but has not filed. Commissioner Alexander Smith has not announced his intention, but is expected to run for re-election to Seat 1.
Apopka municipal elections are scheduled for March 2026.
