First, it was a request from a resident. Now it is a subtropical storm. The Public Workshop for South Apopka Annexation has been postponed for the second time.

Just call it the Little Workshop of Horrors.

At 4 pm on Monday, the City of Apopka announced on its website that the Public Workshop for South Apopka Annexation had been canceled due to the approach of Sub Tropical Storm Nicole.

"The Public Workshop for the South Apopka Annexation, which was scheduled for Wednesday, November 9, 2022, has been postponed due to subtropical storm Nicole," the site said. "A new date will be determined at the next City Council Meeting, taking place on November 16, 2022."

Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta, who pushed for the workshop weeks ago only to see it postponed a second time, called for a quick turnaround on rescheduling.

"I am disappointed that we are postponing the Workshop (again) but to ensure all residents are properly prepared and safe for the “subtropical storm” heading our direction,' Nesta said. "I understand why the Administration has made this unilateral decision. I am advocating that we reschedule for any day between the 17th-22nd of November. This Workshop is the first of many steps in the process of annexation and in becoming what many have referred to as “One Apopka”.

Nelson was also set to deliver the Apopka State of the City address on Thursday morning at 8 am. That event, sponsored by the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce, was rescheduled for November 16th at 8 am, according to Chamber President/CEO Cate Manley.

According to the Orange County Newsroom, Tuesday's Election Day will go on as scheduled.

"Tomorrow is Election Day," the statement says. "Elections Supervisor Bill Cowles is preparing all the voting sites. The impending storm will not impact your decision to exercise your right to vote."

Orange County Public Schools are closely monitoring the storm with the National Weather Service and the Orange County Office of Emergency Management. At this time, no decision has been made to cancel school or extracurricular activities.
