Cops and Bobbers: A chance for the APD to mentor to children and maybe catch a few fish in the process

Posted

This past weekend, officers from the Apopka Police Department volunteered their time to help mentor our local youth by taking them fishing. Kids were selected by local schools who would best benefit from this annual program.

When this event was initially designed and kicked off, our hope was to teach kids about the fun of being outdoors and in nature by allowing them to connect with our police force while getting away from gaming stations and televisions for a while.

To date, this has been a huge success!

All of the fishing gear given to the kids to use during the event was brand new, and as an added bonus, they could keep their gear to use during their summer break from school and in their downtime.

We cannot say THANK YOU enough to ALL of our sponsors who helped make this event even better than the last one and better each year in the future.

Special Thanks To:

City of Apopka Mayor, Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley, Apopka Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Pro Fishing Guide and Charter, Paul Hilson II with Mission: Fishing, Officers from @Apopka Police Department and all of the staff at Kings Landing, for coming out and helping with this event.

Nice, very nice, APD #ApopkaProud! Look at those fish those girls caught! Also a nice selection of sporty fishing equipment. This is really wonderful program to mentor these kids. Thank you to the police for getting involved with these kids, and to the sponsors!
