City Commission candidates squaring off in second forum of campaign season

Posted

With 1,900 vote-by-mail ballots received, five days until early voting in Apopka, and 12 days until the election, the candidates for the City Commission (Seat #2 and #4) will square off again in their second forum of the campaign season.

The Apopka Involved Voters are sponsoring the forum, which is the same group that sponsored the Mayoral Debate on February 17th, and the Apopka City Commission Seat #2 forum in 2020. It's comprised of former and current Rock Springs Ridge Homeowners Association Board members John Drago, Dr. Hank Dunn, and Rod Olsen.

The candidates for City Commission also met on February 7th in a forum sponsored by the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce.

The second City Commission Forum will be held at the Victory Church at 509 South Park Avenue in Apopka on Thursday, February 24th, from 7-8:30 PM and will focus on infrastructure, schools, and real estate development in Apopka.

The forum features Seat #2 candidates Wes Dumey, Commissioner Diane Velazquez, as well as Seat #4 candidates Eric Mock, and Nick Nesta.

The forum can also be live-streamed on The Apopka Chief  Facebook page or youtube platform.

Dunn will moderate the forum. He is a current board member and contractor for Provident Housing Solutions in Apopka, and a realtor at Home Wise Realty in Altamonte Springs.

Previously, Dunn was the Senior Vice President at West Virginia University in Parkersburg, WV, a consultant at Campus Works in Bradenton, FL, President of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, NC, and the Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, IN.

"It's always a good thing for the voters to understand who they are voting for and where the candidates stand on crucial issues," said Dunn. "This forum is just another opportunity for the voters of Apopka to better understand both the candidates and their stances on issues of importance."
