City breaks ground on Apopka Sports Park

Posted

A partnership between City and County, with public and private collaboration, just took the first step in bringing Apopka an amenity it has long wanted. Following the groundbreaking on January 10th, the City of Apopka is developing its new Action Sports Park just north of the Fran Carlton Center. This initiative promises to enhance recreational opportunities for youth and adults in the community with features designed for skateboarders, skaters, and BMX bikers.

Apopka Parks and Recreation Director Radley Williams expressed enthusiasm about the project.

“The park will bring an exciting new amenity to the Apopka community for both the youth and adults to enjoy," he said. “Bringing a skate park to Apopka is an initiative that has been discussed over many years throughout the Apopka community.”

The $500,000 facility is being funded through the Apopka Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), which leverages tax increment fund (TIF) revenue from the City of Apopka and the Orange County Government. Williams also expressed gratitude to the American Ramp Company, renowned for its extensive experience designing and constructing skate and bike parks nationwide and worldwide.

“This project has seen a strong collaboration between the community, local government, and specialized industry partners,” Williams added. “We are grateful for the funding assistance and support from the Apopka Community Redevelopment Agency, City of Apopka Council, and Orange County Government that has made this park a reality.”

The new park will feature a dedicated skate park and a pump track, offering a venue not only for recreation but also for promoting an active lifestyle. These facilities are expected to greatly benefit the local community and attract visitors, further boosting Apopka's status as a hub for business and recreational activities in the region. As construction progresses, residents can look forward to enjoying this new addition, which is poised to become a significant community asset in Apopka’s growing landscape.

The new action sports park is north of the Fran Carlton Center and will include a skate park for skateboarders and skaters and a pump track for BMX bikers.

“The park will bring an exciting new amenity to the Apopka community for both the youth and adults to enjoy,” says Parks and Recreation Director Radley Williams. The groundbreaking for the park was on January 10th.

Williams continues, “Bringing a skate park to Apopka is an initiative that has been discussed over many years throughout the Apopka community, and the Parks and Recreation Department is excited to be able to bring this park to life with the funding assistance and support of the Apopka Community Redevelopment Agency, City of Apopka Council, and Orange County Government.”
