From the City of Apopka - Tuesday, December 27, 2016
The City of Apopka solid waste division is working diligently to pick up post-holiday garbage today for the regularly scheduled Tuesday/Friday routes. The Monday/Thursday routes will be collected next on Thursday, Dec. 29. Garbage and recycling will resume the rest of this week as scheduled.
Today’s collections are expected to be completed by 5 p.m. but may run later than normal. The city is running an extra collection vehicle today to accommodate the large amount of extra bulky garbage.
Because of the Christmas holiday, residential customers originally scheduled for garbage collection on Monday, Dec. 26, will be picked up on Thursday, Dec. 29. Monday’s scheduled yard waste/bulky collections will be collected next Monday, Jan. 2. The city will run regular collection schedules all next week amid the New Year holiday and following days.
We understand that there will be more garbage than usual this week. Rather than overload curbside collection bins, place dry, bulky items like furniture, toys, crates, collapsed boxes and cardboard – all that will not fit into your garbage and recycling bins - about three feet away from the collection bins. Those items should be disposed on your next scheduled bulky collection days.
Please delay disposal of dry, bulky items until your next scheduled yard/bulky collection date. Also, do not park vehicles in the street within five feet of collection bins – parking too close prevents garbage trucks from safely reaching the collection bins. Boxes and paper gift wrapping are recyclable. Styrofoam and plastic wrapping are not.
