Central Florida Council of The Boy Scouts of America honors Becker, Lake Apopka Natural Gas District with Golden Eagle Awards

Commissioner Kyle Becker stormed onto the Apopka political scene in 2016 with a surprising victory over longtime Commissioner Bill Arrowsmith and never looked back. He served on the City Council for nearly eight years, emerging as its vice mayor in 2022.

Becker was a full-throated advocate for the issues he found important. He was the catalyst behind limiting the number of dollar stores opening in Apopka and the driving force that ultimately brought an economic development director to the city.

In his campaigns and Council meetings, Becker often referenced his time as an Eagle Scout and the life lessons he learned from that experience.

On Tuesday night, the Central Florida Council of The Boy Scouts of America gave Becker one more experience - the 2024 Apopka Boy Scout Golden Eagle Award at a dinner held at the Highland Manor in Apopka.

“As an Eagle Scout, the recognition as this year’s honoree was very special to me," said Becker. "I grew up in Scouting right here in the Central Florida Council, and it’s where I learned so much about citizenship, leadership, and character building. I owe a great deal to this organization, and hope our community continues to support their mission.”

The Golden Eagle is given each year to an individual or organization in the community that exemplifies the values of scouting. It is the highest honor presented by the Boy Scouts of America.

The Apopka Golden Eagle Dinner is an annual event that brings together the Apopka community's business, civic, and political leaders to share the story of Scouting’s impact on youth. Prior winners include former Apopka Police Chief Robert Manley, Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson, and former Apopka Fire Chief Chuck Carnesale.

The Lake Apopka Natural Gas District was the 2024 corporate honoree.
