Border Lake is a 34-acre closed-drainage basin with impacts from SR 436, Seminole County, Orange County, and the City of Apopka. It's part of the Big Wekiva Watershed. Recently, it has been a particularly hot topic in Apopka. Specifically, its propensity to flood.

But this discussion didn't start in 2025.
Back in October of 2024 after hurricanes devastated the area, residents around Border Lake began to speak out for a solution.
