Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 2 am, a Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by an 18-year-old Port Richey man, was traveling southbound on Lema Drive.
At the same time, a Chevy Malibu, driven by a 36-year-old Spring Hill woman, was traveling eastbound on Spring Hill Drive.
At the intersection of the two roadways, the first vehicle failed to stop for a posted stop sign, entered the intersection, and struck the left side of the second vehicle.
Post-impact, both vehicles traveled to the southeast portion of the intersection, where the second vehicle struck a utility pole and a tree.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the first vehicle and its passengers, two Spring Hill women aged 17 and 18, suffered minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
