Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle collision in Putnam County last night that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:05 pm, four motorcycles were traveling West on State Road 100, and one SUV was traveling East on State Road 100 near Lakeview Drive.
The first vehicle, a motorcycle driven by a 22-year-old St. Augustine man, was traveling westbound and collided with the left side of the second motorcycle, driven by a 28-year-old Keystone Heights man, causing it to enter the grass shoulder where it came to final rest.
The initial collision caused the first vehicle to enter the eastbound travel lane of State Road 100 into the path of the SUV, driven by a 59-year-old Manassas, VA man. As a result, they collided head-on.
The driver and a passenger in the SUV (an 86-year-old Manassas, VA woman) were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The rider of the first motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The FHP did not release the names of the riders, drivers, or passengers involved in the crash.
