Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Union County last night that resulted in the death of the driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:02 pm, a 57-year-old Lake Butler man driving a pickup truck was traveling westbound on County Road 18.
As he approached, the driver failed to maintain the proper lane and exited the roadway onto the grassy shoulder. As a result, he overcorrected his steering, which caused the vehicle to cross over the eastbound travel lane and continue southwest, colliding with a standing tree.
According to the report, the driver suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
The FHP did not release the driver's name involved in the collision.
