Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Sarasota County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash in Sarasota County last night that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:58 p.m., a Ford Fusion, driven by a 56-year-old Englewood man, was traveling from the Publix Supermarket's access drive at 55 North Indiana Avenue, crossing the northbound lanes of Indiana Avenue.

At the same time, a Nissan Titan driven by a 34-year-old Rotonda West man was traveling north on Indiana Avenue, north of East Dearborn Street.

As they approached, the front of the second vehicle collided with the left side doors of the first vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle sustained serious injuries, was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
