Breaking News Overnight: Bicyclist hit and killed by SUV in Sarasota County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Sarasota County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:51 pm, a 2017 Chevy Equinox sport utility vehicle driven by a 66-year-old Minneapolis man was traveling southbound on U.S. 41, occupying the inside travel lane.
At the same time, a 45-year-old Nokomis woman was riding a bicycle and improperly crossed the roadway near Pavonia Road, and collided with the SUV.
The bicyclist was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. According to the report, the woman was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the SUV remained on scene and is cooperating with the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or bicyclist involved in the collision.
