Apopka City Commissioner Doug Bankson announced his intention to leave the Apopka City Council at its Wednesday, February 16th meeting.
"After much consideration and prayer. After speaking with my family. After speaking to the congregation that I serve, I thought it fitting to announce my intention to pursue the office of state representative for District 39," Bankson said. "I will continue to serve until my time to step down arrives, but I will never stop serving this community."
Bankson is also the founder and Senior Pastor of Victory Church World Outreach Center in Apopka.
Banskon has held Seat #3 on the City Council for six years - beginning with a victory over incumbent Commissioner Sam Ruth in 2016 and was reelected in 2020. His term ends in 2024.
The newly formed District 39 of the Florida House includes all of Apopka, parts of Winter Garden, and parts of Seminole County.
