Eleven officers from the Dallas Police Department (DPD), and Dallas Area Rapid Transit were wounded, according to DPD Chief David Brown at a brief City Hall news conference last night.

Five of the eleven officers have died.

DPD later confirmed on their Twitter feed that five officers have died.

At least two shooters from separate elevated positions above the demonstration site opened fire, Brown said in an earlier statement.

Three suspects are in police custody.

A thirty square block area in Downtown Dallas has been closed to the public and is being treated as an active crime scene. More details about the road closures here.

The City of Dallas is providing official updates on their website.

The next news conference is scheduled for 8:30 AM EDT.
