Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Hernando County this morning that resulted in injuries to one driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:45 am, a Dodge Ram 3500 towing a trailer with pieces of sheet metal, metal tubing, and ladders, driven by a 23-year-old man from Bainbridge, Georgia, was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 at a low speed near the 294-milepost.
At the same time, a Toyota Camry, driven by a 25-year-old Dade City woman, was traveling southbound on I-75 and collided with the rear of the trailer towed by the first vehicle and its extended load.
A third vehicle, a tractor-trailer driven by a 54-year-old Alachua man, was traveling southbound on I-75 when it collided with the second vehicle.
Following the collision, the second and third vehicles traveled to the outside shoulder, struck a guardrail, and overturned.
The drivers of the first and third vehicles were not injured during the incident; however, the second driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Southbound I-75 remained closed for hours with traffic diverted at SR-50.
The FHP did not release the drivers' names involved in the crash.
